National Safe Boating Week: May 20-26, 2017

Ready-Set-WearIt

Boating Safety Advocates Across North America Promote Safe and Responsible Boating During National Safe Boating Week

What looks like a perfect day for boating can quickly become hazardous if someone ends up in the water. Boating safety advocates across the United States and Canada have teamed up to promote safe and responsible boating – including consistent life jacket wear every time boaters are on the water – during National Safe Boating Week, held from May 20-26, 2017.

Get involved with the North America Safe Boating Campaign, or at the minimum, read up on the Ready, Set, WearIt!  challenge.

The leaves are falling and the club is preparing for the holiday season. The unofficial start began with many of the members’ children dressing up and enjoying the Halloween festivities at the Club. The adults then took their turn getting dressed and attending the Monster Bash. It was a very colorful event and I want to thank Ken Herbert, in addition to Kim and Bob Bielecki for planning the event and decorating Club. A good time was had by all!

During the next few months, the Club will be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner and the annual Holiday Party on December 10, 2016. Please be sure to make your reservations, for other events check out the Rudder.

As fall begins, the look of the Club begins to change. While many members are looking forward to the Columbus Day week-end regatta, many others are starting the process of winterizing their vessels and removing them from the marina. Many of the MYC Anglers are still enjoying the fishing season by chasing after bluefish and stripers. There is still time to enjoy your boats.

Keep an eye on eblasts for upcoming events. Please be sure that we have your current email so that you don’t miss out on any of the Club happenings. Additionally, please note that in 2017 we will be publishing the Rudder only electronically.

Commodore’s Corner:

I want to take a moment to thank our members who have slips at F-Dock. We all appreciate that they were inconvenienced during the dredging. Their selflessness enabled the project to be successful for the benefit to all of the harbor’s boaters.

The entertainment committee has scheduled a number of events in July, including musical entertainment by DynaMojo on the deck July 3 and Parrot Beach for Jimmy Buffet Night July 23. Please be sure to make your reservations as they are popular events. We have a number of activities planned for our young people on Wednesday’s in July.

The sailing programs have begun. The juniors are sailing daily and MYC will be hosting the annual Optisail Regatta on July 27, 2016. Volunteers are always needed so see Fleet Captain Alan Liebnick, DDS.  The adult sailing programs are running as well. Thanks go out to our member volunteer instructors.
