MYC Charity . . . Milford Food 2 Kids
This year’s charity is Milford Food 2 Kids Please consider a donation for those who are less fortunate, Feeding Our Children School isn’t just a place for learning. For some students, it is their reliable source of food. From Friday afternoon until they return to school on Monday morning, some children here in Milford do not know if, when, or how much quality food they will have access to. That is “food insecurity”.
Connecticut’s child food insecurity rate is 16.7% (1 in 6), Milford Food 2 Kids was created to help bridge the food gap for our community’s food insecure kids. Bags of kid-friendly food (enough for meals and snacks over the weekend) are handed out every week to children identified by caring social workers and school staff to participate in this resource support program. Launched in February 2016, Milford Food 2 Kids started serving 26 students in 2 local schools. By the end of the 2017 school year, we were serving 166 kids in 13 schools. Our goal is sustainability for the sake of kids we serve. Because of the generosity of the community and great volunteers, we have invited all of our public schools to participate. We strive to meet the need so that no child goes hungry.
