2017 Boardman Cup returns to MYC
Forecasts early in the week looked grim. Rain, thunderstorms and even some weather stations forecast hail! The front came through at 0700 hours, power was knocked out locally, but the skippers and crew departed the docks @ 1100 hours to the race course. End of day, with a nice breeze filling from the southwest at 10 kts, gusts reported to 18 kts, the only “hail” seen was skipper John Hale, winning Class B and a key contributor to the successful team of John Hale, PC Ed Becker and PC Bruce Kuryla as the triumvirate that helped the MYC return the cup.
The Housatonic Boat Club (HBC) won the cup in 2016, and brought a strong team to this year’s regatta, with Caliente skippered by Joel Green taking a 1st Place Overall. We appreciate their efforts, and look forward to the HBC Invitational Regatta on September 9th.
Thanks goes out to the crew out on the race course; Eileen Russell, Tim Foley, Karen Lagarde, Konrad Lagarde, Jim Trapp and our team from the Mystic Mudheads – Hatsie Mahoney, Frank Murphy & Greg Gilmartin. Additional thanks go out to our dock staff, led by Matt Iovanna and our restaurant team led by James Fedorchak & Chef David Bridgforth.
The MYC extends a generous thank you to the skippers and crews that participated in this years regatta, and we look forward to continuing the tradition with excellent sailing, food, entertainment and most importantly the camaraderie of fellow sailors across the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association (ECSA)
