June, Letter from the Commodore

Summer Icon

Dear Members,

As I write this letter we are anxiously awaiting the green light for phase two of the reopening of our state. It has been a long haul for our country, state, town and us here at MYC. With all the unfortunate unrest in our country between the COVID-19 pandemic and national protests, it’s nice to know in a couple weeks MYC will be in full swing and it will be a safe and inviting environment for us all to enjoy.

Thank you all for supporting our curb side take out offerings and now, too, our outside dining options. We are anxious and ready for the reopening of our inside restaurant very soon. VC Bud Franke and our management staff have done a great job working with the state and local officials to insure a safe and pleasant atmosphere. They will continue to make the needed temporary adjustments of our R & B operation moving into the next phase of the reopening.

Every day we are monitoring the reopening guidelines and will be quick to respond to get our club in full operation. Our marina is fully operational (please follow the posted temporary rules). Our pool and snack bar is ready to open ASAP when we get the go ahead from the state; we are fully staffed and ready to run our swimming and sailing programs very soon, on or close to the same schedule as a regular season.

Milford Yacht Club Temporary Re-Opening Rules [Revised]

MYC Logo

As you know, restaurants will be permitted to re-open on Wednesday, May 20th for outdoor dining only. We know that you are anxious to return to the Club and we have developed a re-opening plan to ensure the safety of our
members and compliance with local, state and federal COVID-19 guidelines and rules. These rules are temporary and will be revisited and modified as frequently as necessary. The officers and directors ask for your understanding
and cooperation during this unprecedented time. We all hope to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

We have been working behind the scenes to ensure a safe but enjoyable experience for you. Staff will be screened before each shift for COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone experiencing symptoms or illness will be sent home and
urged to contact their healthcare provider. Employees will be wearing masks at all times and servers and bussers will also be wearing gloves. Prior to reopening, staff will be trained in proper handwashing techniques and proper
disinfecting and cleaning protocols.

Ken O'Herbert 2020Hello members and welcome to the 2020 season! It seems like yesterday that we were all at the New Year’s Eve celebration and what a celebration it was! Oustanding food, libations, service, music and even fireworks! Huge thanks go out to all of the members in attendance and our staff, clearly it was the premier event of the year! 2020 looks to be a fun and exciting season as well!

The Clubhouse interior has a fresh coat of paint, the floors have been refinished and there are a few other surprises. As always, we will be maintaining and making improvements throughout the year. The off-season is always a very busy time of the year for our staff, management, Board members and officers. I’d like to welcome a few newcomers to the Board of Directors this year. Mr. Bob Bepko as a Director, Ms. Kathy Walker as our new Secretary and yes, he’s back, Mr. Doug Jones, P.C., also as a Director.

Please be sure to congratulate them and give them your support! At this time of year, and with spring in the air early (hopefully), we are all anxious to get back in our favorite seat in the Commodore’s Lounge! We start with our soft opening on Friday, March 6th, with the McNeiecer unplugged, playing all of your favorites. The big event of the month is Friday, March 13th with the intoxicating Irish sounds of The Highland Rovers, preceded by the very talented step dancers from the Lenihan School of Irish Dance. All of this, of course, is highlighted by Executive Chef David Bridgforth’s classic St. Paddy’s Day feast!

The November Rudder is posted . . .

Rudder 2020

Dear Members,Commodore Herbert
Welcome to November! Well here we are already into the holiday months at MYC. The boats are being hauled and covered, the pool has been drained and winterized, the awning has come down and the bar fireplace is on, but this Commodore is still blackfishing! (and loving every minute of it!) Only the hearty fishermen, and now the Frostbite Fleet, are still on the water.
With the change of the season comes lots of work and planning for our staff, officers, directors and committees. I want to thank everyone for their hard work and commit-ment to the Club. As always, look deeper in The Rudder and watch for your weekly e-blast for all happenings at our Club.

Holiday Wreath-Making on November 21st, Thanksgiving on November 28th, and MYC Tree Decorating on December 1st. The big date to save is New Year’s Eve! This year we are going full out to send off 2019 with a bang! We have secured an exciting band…Dyna-Durty! A supergroup combination of Dyna-Mojo and Titan Durty! We all know these boys will rock the house and have us dancing ‘til midnight! We are still in the planning stage for this event but it will be the premier event of the year with lots of surprises for all to enjoy.

Sadly, we lost two of our members recently, Chad Easley and Robert Kapusta, Sr. Each were great Club members and will be sorely missed. Our hearts go out to their families and friends during this difficult time.
