Program Overview: Kids and teens learn to sail at MYC this summer! If you have always wanted to learn to sail, this is your chance. MYC offers a great sailing program, and you don’t have to be a club member to participate. That means your friends can learn to sail with you. Think how much fun you can have sailing and swimming at the club this summer.
Sailing is a special interest, if not a passion, that lasts a lifetime, and there is no better way to start than with the MYC Junior Sailing Program. The summer program teaches a lot more than sailing, you will learn responsibility, self-sufficiency, independence, and teamwork. If you already know how to sail, increase your skills with our afternoon program which allows juniors of various ages to participate with special emphasis on their area of interest, including adventure sailing and racing.

Opti Regatta 2018 – August 3rd – Rescheduled 🙂
It is with great pleasure, and the first reschedule in the history of the regatta, that the MYC is hosting this year’s regatta on the first Friday in August. The Jr. Sailing leadership met, and elected to reschedule rather than cancel based on current forecasts & feedback from peer clubs. If you have any questions, please contact the MYC Fleet Captain (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Look forward to seeing you in August!
Although the snow is piling up, the temperatures remain bone chilling . . . there is hope, watch this space for the Open House reschedule date to put on your calendar! Representatives for the Junior Sailing & Buccaneers, as well as the Swim team will be available to discuss the program details and schedule.

Wednesday July 26th, MYC hosted the 23rd Annual OptiSail Regatta
MYC membership has always stepped forward to help make this one of the most successful and fun regattas in the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound (JSA-LIS
). It was a great day, and the team of volunteers stepped up their game again. From helping sailors park & off-load boats (at low tide), registering the sailors across 4 fleets (grouped by age & experience) from 7 local yacht clubs to delivering sandwiches at lunch time on the water (unique for MYC), it was a rewarding event.
With 99, 8-15 year old young sailors from clubs across the Long Island Sound it was a spectacular event and by volunteering for this regatta, it was a great way to promote junior sailors and gain future crew. Thank you to all volunteers, staff and club members for supporting and participating in another successful year.
2017 Opti Regatta results by class
Special thanks to Bruce Scull and the Jr. Sailing Committee for their excellence.
Looking for a great way to get your kids to make new friends, learn new skills and develop a love for the water? The Junior Buccaneers (JBs), for children ages 6-7, will participate in activities that provide a “sampling” of all that summer at the MYC has to offer for our young people. The program will include sailing, swimming, arts & crafts, nature explorations and games.
On Land and Sea, JBs will participate in an array of activities that teach them water safety, respect for the environment and help them to build confidence while making new friends at the MYC.
Each day is different for a Junior Buccaneer but at the end of the session, JBs will remember:
Sailing activities that include an introduction to the Optimist on land and water, rides in the coach boat around the harbor, knot tying and sailing games that introduce them to the “rules of the sea.”
Cooling off with pool activities, games and competitions that build confidence and skill in the water. Nature walks that incorporate explorations of tidal pools and other habitats while learning some local legend and lore regarding Milford and its long maritime tradition.
The 2017 program will consist of one session, Mon – Fri, hours 8:30 -11:00. The first session will run Tue 6/27 – Fri 7/21. Cost of the program is $350 per session. All boats used in this program will be provided by the club.
Do I need to be a member? No! Our programs are open to all. However, non-members are required to pay a $675 “C” membership fee per child.
